Flatpack Pavillion

A design strategy project which aims to create a sense of community through the act of building.

Similar to a traditional barn raising ceremony this flat pack pavilion is a structure that can be erected by a group of 7-14 people using 26 pre-made triangles that are hinged together by participants. Through this process the participants experience a sense of accomplishment together and once completed can celebrate their efforts in the structure itself. Over a 12 week period we experimented with different methods to make such a build possible on a budget of £500. The structure is primarily created with caressing wood, pallet wrap and hinges using steel cable and ply wood as structural reinforcement and sand bags to weigh the structure down.

We envision these materials being distributed as a flat pack to business', schools and communities and under taken as a group bonding activity.
